Tri-Koebel Registered Jerseys began in 1994 with the purchase of an Excellent seven year old cow "Club Hill Bruces Melody" from George Busch Sr. Greta, Ava and Tera were seven, five and three years old, respectively, at that time and they formed a partnership in Jerseys to compliment their budding Holstein show string.
Over the years they have bred, bought and sold many fine animals, but the cow that contributed the most to their herd is JVB Redhot Aeorhurts Maybelle EX94. Greta won Maybelle in July of 1999 through the Michigan 4-H Dairy Days competition. Greta chose the little four month old Jersey calf to be her prize, and we had to haul Maybelle home in the nose of our trailer to keep her from being crushed by the big Holstein cows!
Maybelle developed into a tremendous cow, winning many classes including Surpreme Champion of the Michigan State Fair and Premeire Performance Cow of the Grand National Junior Show. She was also a great brood cow, producing many Excellent daughters and granddaughters, in fact over half of the animals in our sale are her descendents.
Tri-Koebel Jerseys has always focused buying and breeding cows with show ring style, and as a result we have been fortunate to grace the spotlight at both World Dairy Expo and the All-American Jersey show. Last year was our best year so far in that we had the Reserve Junior Champion of the junior show at WDE, Junior Champion at the All-American, 1st Place 4 Year Old & Premiere Performance Cow at the All-American.
Although we love showing, we have not neglected the importance of milk production in our breeding program. Our rolling herd average generally stays above 15,000 pounds of milk, with a 5% fat and upper 3% protein (actual 305). We have placed in the National Youth Production contest numerous times and sold heifers that have placed well in the National Pot O' Gold contest.
It was not our desire to sell our Jersey herd at this point in time; it is the result of turmoil in trying to accomplish a family farm transition with our Grandparents. We hope that we can work through this difficult situation over time and then perhaps rebuild our herd. Meanwhile, we hope you will appreciate our years of work in breeding this great group of cattle and find an animal or two that will be valuable asset to your operation.
