THE MICHIGAN  JUNIOR  JERSEY CATTLE CLUB--  HAVING FUN WHILE LEARNING ABOUT JERSEYS

The MJCC has an active program for youth who are interested in the purebred dairy industry and prefer or wish to learn more about the Jersey breed of cattle.

Youth memberships are available individually or as part of a family membership package  (see "Join MJCC").   The Youth programs are open to Jersey Juniors from ten to twenty one years of age.

The Junior members elect their own board on an annual basis, and plan activities with the assistance of adult advisors.   Sally Thomsen of Stanton MI is the lead advisor for MJCC Junior activities.     We appreciate her long time enthusiasm for this.

EXAMPLES OF RECENT AND ANNUAL JERSEY JUNIOR ACTIVITIES

MJCC Juniors annually select a "raffle calf" from a willing MJCC Breeder which is given away at the Spring Sale, and funds their activities.    So selling raffle tickets is one of the Jersey Junior experiences.

MJCC Juniors act as the leadspeople and the bid slip runners for the Spring Sale, and older junior members volunteer to help with the feeding, washing and presentation of the show cattle for viewing the two days prior to the sale.

Many MJCC Juniors have either 4H, FFA or Breed Show projects.    The MJCC hosts selection, fitting and showing days at a member's dairy farm, to help Juniors learn what it takes to succeed with a show project.

The MJCC has a contest annually, usually completed at the summer MJCC picnic, in which we pick the "Michigan Jersey Queen" for the following twelve months of public activities.    This is good practice for those young women who will wish to also compete for the AJCA's National Jersey Princess recognition (held each November at the All-American show in Louisville KY).
