I Remember When H.E. Sennison (Denny was a fieldman in Michigan for the American Jersey Cattle Club. by Blanche Piepkow
Denny was once a teacher in the dairy department of Michigan State College and later was employed by the AJCC around 1920 (8 years before I was born). Denny had the idea of setting up Parish Shows for displaying and promoting Jerseys. The name Parish probably was arrived at because units of government on the Isle of Jersey, the largest of the three English Channel Islands, were called Parishes. In the beginning there were 5 Parishes, Saginaw, Southeast, Thumb, Southwest, and West. These shows continued for many years, but finally because of the lack of State Funds for the Parish shows the 5 Parishes evolved into one State Parish Show.
My first memories of Denny were in the 1940's as a teenager. I knew him as a very knowledgeable person of the Jersey Breed, much respected judge of Dairy Cattle and loved by Michigan Jersey Breeders.
When he retired no one thought he could be replaced but then along came Victor L. Peterson. He quickly endeared himself to the Michigan Breeders and went about promoting the Jersey breed and giving wise counsel to the Michigan breeders. He served as fieldman for 24 years. He lived in Marshall, Michigan. He was also field man for Ohio and Indiana. In 1971 Vic was honored by all Breeds at the North American Dairy Show by a plaque which read (In recognition of Vic L Peterson, dean of Dairy Breed representatives, sincere friend Counselor, leader and first Superintendent of the North American Dairy Show.
